Peterborough Regional Health Centre
The Best of Both Worlds
Unwilling to compromise between small town access to nature, and big city medicine? Neither are we.
We work in a large, regional, academic-focused centre.
We have a strong culture of education and professional development. In addition to this yearly conference, we run monthly in situ simulations, regular educational rounds from our specialists, a yearly pediatric skills and simulation day, and have a developing US curriculum.
We teach Queen's family medicine and CCFP-EM residents regularly. If you are interested in teaching, there are abundant opportunities to get involved with procedural skills, simulation, and didactic teaching sessions.
We are a high volume ED, with over 87,000 visits yearly. We have 12 scheduled shifts per 24 hour period, including 2 doctor coverage overnight. Procedures and resuscitations are a regular part of our shifts. We are a Level III Trauma Centre, a Regional Stroke Centre, and have a Cath Lab. We have the support of obstetrics, pediatrics, general surgery, vascular surgery, and many more specialists.
In this department, we see the volume and acuity that allows continued professional growth, in a supportive environment where there is always a friendly colleague available to provide support.
Outside of work, Peterborough offers the joys of living in a city that is surrounded by nature. Many of us love to run, road bike, paddle (in town, Kawartha Highlands Park - 1hr), mountain bike (Haroldtown - 15m, Milbrook - 25m, Ganaraska Forest - 45m), downhill ski (Brimacombe - 30m), cross country ski (Kawartha Nordic - 45m), and play on various rec teams (hockey, basketball, ultimate frisbee).
With a comparatively reasonable housing market, you could find yourself a home on the water (cottage country is just 20 minutes away), in the country, on a farm, or in one of Peterborough's lovely neighbourhoods.
As a university and college town, the food and arts scene is bound to exceed your expectations with its options and variety. Learn more about local events here.
Only 1.5 hour drive from downtown Toronto, many of regularly go into TO for personal and professional events, taking advantage of this easy access to bigger city amenities.
